Frequently Asked Questions
What is LIPO-STEM DUO™?
LIPO-STEM DUO™ is a TGA-compliant, doctor-administered procedure that uses your own fat tissue — rich in mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) — to help repair joint damage, reduce inflammation, and support natural healing.
Is this the same as stem cell injections I’ve seen advertised?
No. Many advertised “stem cell treatments” are unregulated or use lab-expanded cells. LIPO-STEM DUO™ is a minimally manipulated, autologous (your own) tissue treatment backed by clinical evidence, performed by trained practitioners.
Who qualifies for LIPO-STEM DUO™?
Veterans experiencing joint pain (e.g., knees, hips, ankles, shoulders) from osteoarthritis, and who want to delay or avoid surgery, may be eligible. A registered provider will assess your condition and treatment goals.
Is it covered by the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA)?
We are currently working closely with the DVA to secure national approval. In the meantime, case-by-case funding may be available through the Prior Financial Authorisation process.
How long does the procedure take?
Most procedures are completed in under an hour, often without hospital admission or general anaesthesia.
How long do results last?
Results vary by individual, but many patients report relief lasting 12–24 months or longer. Clinical follow-ups show reduced pain, improved mobility, and increased quality of life.
Are there any risks or side effects?
Risks are minimal since it uses your own tissue. As with any procedure, there is a small chance of bruising, swelling, or infection at the injection site.
Can I still have surgery later if needed?
Yes. LIPO-STEM DUO™ does not affect your eligibility for future treatments, including total joint replacement if ever required.
